Why are these so many logical positivists and scientism supporters around these days? What happened? Are we re-running the 20th century but with a different random seed and the tech BS parameter set higher?

My guess is that the history of philosophy is not covered well during STEM education, which leads some scientists to reinvent. As for the non scientists (e.g. harris fans), maybe a result of society's emphasis on STEM as the only legit careers during their formative years?

A lot of culture these days is driven by silicon valley types who have a technocratic (logical positivist) view, right? It is a definitely a philosophy that can seduce.
