in hindsight, that was an unfair reading. I was naturally focused on the issue I'd engaged on, so from my perspective, the salient feature of the post was what struck me as an unfair framing of the (uncontroversial) point we'd discussed in the thread 2 days earlier. 10/

whatever the superficial merits of my objection, I agree with
@richarddmorey that it was a dumb observation to make, because it missed the forest for the trees. there's not a direct link from "sexism is probably a factor here" to "psych students want an easy major". 11/1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes -

I filled in the gaps because it made sense given where I had left the thread in my mind, but that's my problem, not
@o_guest's. 12/1 reply 0 retweets 6 likes -

this doesn't of course excuse the fact that I didn't read as carefully or reflectively as I should have, and I take responsibility for that. 14/

more importantly, a charitable reading of the post should never have led me to conclude that
@o_guest was implying that sexism was the primary driver of the arguments she laid out—only one that it was one possible contributor (which is of course true). 15/1 reply 0 retweets 7 likes -

I profess to believe in the principle of charity, but I didn't do that here, and I apologize for that, and I'm sorry for any distress I caused. I'll try to do better in future. I appreciate your patience. 16/

Can I just say I am really pleasantly surprised by this (mainly because I almost never see this kind of change online or in general) — wow. I am honestly happy and a little proud of us all to read this, Tal. Good night!
