Worth adding: much less interest than we had for RRs at same time after launch. Predictably, presenting exploratory research as exploratory seems to be less attractive to researchers than presenting it as pseudo confirmatory razzle dazzle in a regular article.

what we will likely try first is limit to a couple different types of exploratory research to generate interest (e.g., split-half validation, machine learning) and build from there.

Is there a way to pro-actively alert people to the highly limited scope of such initiatives. It would save the rest of us -- not covered by them -- the time & energy to explain again and again that our work is not pseudoscience because it does not fit some new OS template?

I think I at least try to point out limitations/importance of humility time and again.

I’m sure you personally do. But to have impact on OS culture perhaps it would be good if OS practices come with explicit disclaimers on their scope. Perhaps open scientists can openly take a stand that it’s actually poor practice to uphold templates as arbiters on “good” science.

An aside: I’m curious Chris, do you by any chance have me muted?

Hmm. I was literally just saying how comms have broken down between us, Iris. Painful, if true.https://twitter.com/o_guest/status/1064528798257958917 …

@zerdeve does not help them in getting the full picture. Way to insulate to critical views

TBH I don't care any more. It's getting to the point where they expect us all to understand their jargon without explanation really (and we often do) but they aren't even bothered to understand modelling. It's amusing because all these years I thought there was mutual respect.

They can mute and block us all. They are the ones missing out either way because they don't understand how we do science.

I understand how they do science because they are the majority in many ways, which is why I get why their need to prereg and RR whatever else they think of next.
