Lido means outside pool. The history of the term is interesting. USAmericans and generally the rest of the world just say pool or outside pool. Many lidos are filled with sea water, ones that are near the sea. The Victorians build loads because of their ideas about seawater.

As a cold averse Cypriot, I've never swum in an outside unheated pool. I have swum in an outside pool in the mountains in California but it was neither heated nor a lido.
