Oh I had forgotten! Thanks for proving me wrong. I no longer block people (only 1 exception) but must have tried in the past. Didn't remember. I can then tell the several people who told me they are too scared to unfollow you they should be fine as long as they don't block you?

Only a year and a half ago. My memory is really getting bad that I had completely forgotten about this... I do remember experimenting. But on topic; I had decided not to block people and agree with

I respect people blocking me and people unfollowing me. If they block me after a debate like ours and they are like you are a prof, I might mock them. Bu tI assume you are talking about fellow ERCs and students? People who are not tweeting me to tell me weird stuff?

Why have you turned this into being about how I am scary though? You realise your name is pretty much number one on the list of name I get in the whisper network of women scared of your Twitter BS right?

I know, had a friend in that network who kept me informed. I sometimes reach out to some people who feel like that. I think I was trying to point out things easily get out of hand on twitter for everyone.

Two things: 1) Sure. Well, if there is anything I can do to make these profs who are scared me feel better let me know and I'll decide if their requests are sensible given the power dynamics. It's vague what you said so I am replying with a general statement about power here.

2) That's a kind of creepy thing to say and probably (definitely?) makes people scared. Already have exactly that from people who are horrified you think saying that you have an informant within their private discussions is not scary.

I said we had shared friends. You talked to people who also talked to me. That should hardly be surprising? No need to jump to 'an informant'.

Yeah, I know. But I am describing to you how what you say is being perceived. I thought that was the point that you claim that you are perceived as scary? I personally am not scared of you, but I totally get where they are coming from.

I also get it. And I have talked to many people about why I can be scary. I am similarly happy to talk to anyone who wants about this - sometimes a lot can be learned in a 30 min skype talk. I try to remember most people are nice. Twitter has a good way of obscuring that.

I agree that most people are nice. I do struggle to see what nice has to do with the problems we face on Twitter/life though. Pretty much every single human on Earth agrees that being nice is important, and yet here we are!

Yet here we are ;) There is a reason I believe psychological science is worth improving and a solution to this online communication problem would in my view be quite a useful contribution to society.

Improving online communication is a great research goal, yes. Not my research interest/expertise but surely something really useful. I have my doubts about Twitter listening to you/anybody though.
