I started the hashtag #bropenscience because I do #openscience and I need a way to call the people out who act in ways I think are unacceptable. If you think that's the same as me being against open science that's completely unfounded, but I see why it's useful rhetoric.

Open science should be able to call out people for behaving in less than ideal, less than professional, etc., ways. This is my/our way of doing it. I like puns. To say that cos I don't like bros in open science means I don't like it is "useful" rhetoric, but demonstrably false.

Sadly, a lot of ahistorical takes on open science seem to be emerging. That is in of itself worrying. Those who control the understanding of history/origins of communities and skew the narrative trend to do so for their own benefit.

There’s quite a few problems in the world that we wouldn’t have if we valued history. Time to read Umberto Eco’s essay on fascism for the 80th time this year. (This has nothing to do with open science, I just like that essay, and it’s scarily prescriptive.)
