Oh twitter. Every time I want to get excited by open science, I see a twitter conversation where OS bros are aggressively accusing someone of bad practice (that someone happens to be a women, pure coincidence right...). Just don't OK?

I just don't see what positive can come up from attacking someone anyway. The circumstances where this would be warranted are really rare.
#openscience should be about positive examples, cooperation and mutual support.3 replies 3 retweets 29 likes -

One would assume so, but apparently it's also about essentially accusing someone of p-hacking despite clear efforts from them not to

The obsession with p-hacking is also stupid, IMO. Broadly, p-values should not be how we judge scientific results. Effect sizes should be clear and explanations for analysis choices logically justifiable. The p-value should never be the focus.

It's like people lost the plot a bit, like why they got into psychology/neuroscience/science in the first place.

Iris van Rooij @IrisVanRooijIn the beginning, psychologists had a hammer & everything looked like a nail. Problems arose because they didn't know how to handle the hammer well. Now all effort is spent on how they can use the hammer in the best possible way so they finally hit nails well. 1/2Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 5 likes -

Love this, but at the same time it makes me feel lost because I want to cling to the hammer and the nail as much as I can because it's all I've ever known

Which is a funny visual pun because if you do hit your nail (as opposed to a nail) that would hurt, which fits with
@IrisVanRooij's point.
