Interesting video, but even in the video, not everybody trips. The main difference though, is that walking up steps is a highly automatic action. Science is not, or should not be. What happens if people are told that the step is a different height and to be extra careful?

The metaphor breaks down of course because in the real world for some people, the steps manifest as perfect with no need for minor adjustments. In other cases, of course, they are just as badly formed but the avoidance cost is lower for some, e.g.: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missing_stair …
