Of course we do, but my point is we shouldn't be rewarding people based on whether they find them or appear to find them. That's the problem here.

Presumably. Who can say what history will say about all this, but hopefully the fact that it has happened very publicly from the beginning will help keep historians on the right track, assuming whoever ends up documenting all this cares about the facts.

I don't know, I'm just saying if RRs do take over, there is precedent to suggest that Chris would likely be held up relative to others who contributed (even if he doesn't want to be). I'd hope that wouldn't be the case here, or ever, just that it is likely.

As you say, there isn't a lot we can do about what others will say after we're gone, but I always try my hardest to emphasise that RRs are not my idea, and that the credit (and blame) belongs to many. Maybe this discussion will help remind someone some day about that fact.
