Maybe Stephenson's "Anathem"? Opinions are mixed on it, but .. I liked it a lot.

Maybe Reamde by Neal Stephenson? Easier to read than Anathem and about hackers games etc

Reamde is really good too. More of a thriller kind of thing than sci fi maybe, but worth reading & goes fast.

Reamde features women in danger in a way that Anathem does not, if I'm not forgetting any important details. So possibly Anathem's a better fit, of the two.
