What have you enjoyed recently? Not SE per se but some stuff I like with sort of softwareish aspects: Reamde, Neal Stephenson; Quantum Thief, Hannu Rajaniemi; Rainbow's End, Vernor Vinge. Looking forward to seeing everyone else's suggestions.
That's going to be tough. Can't read that kind of stuff. Not with my mental health.

Maybe Reamde by Neal Stephenson? Easier to read than Anathem and about hackers games etc
-
Reamde is really good too. More of a thriller kind of thing than sci fi maybe, but worth reading & goes fast.

I'm bad at categorizing
anathem is really my favorite, it's too bad that it is literally hard to read because of all the made up words -
I didn't find the words got in the way. My real favorite is the Baroque Cycle but ..not sci fi. Very sci-fi adjacent and excellent though. Not exactly escapist with its 3000 pages...

I must admit, I do like a good epic! I'll have to take a look at the Baroque Cycle. But definitely agree with the Anathem recommendation, it's really well written, and the made-up words aren't overdone.
-
And it's not like all awful stuff happening?
-
I wouldn't say so
-
I agree - Anathem is a big book. I gave it away when I'd finished it thinking I'd never want to read it again, but have regularly regretted that! A big part of the book is the slow discovery by the reader of how the world works. Very very little exposition is provided >
