Speaking only for myself, it's important to remember that SIPS is not one thing or one person. Lee writes about synergy between SIPS' mission and heterodox's mission. Other SIPS' members likely strongly disagree. [1/2]

That's fine. We can debate the ideas but not attribute a perspective to all SIPS' members. [2/2]

thanks for this, katie! still not sure why SIPS isn't taking a firmer stand on the issue when the org is being used to further right-wing views and the idea of "ideological diversity" comes in conflict with your code of conduct (ensuring a safe environment for minorities, etc.)

I can add some context to my earlier tweet. It was a reference to mine (co-founder of SIPS and COS) and Jon Haidt's (HdxAcademy) common goals. It was not to suggest that the organizations are formally linked in any way. Jon and I have been friends and collaborators since 2002.

That’s reassuring to hear. As someone interested in open science, but who has never attended SIPS, I found the idea of synergy between SIPS and the heterodox academy very offputting.

This is from Lee's Quillette article, where the quote originated: "In my view, the two efforts are synergistic, but estranged. There is little overlap in the membership of the two organizations." He's not saying they are aligned, he is saying they should be 1/n

Lee is one of 450+ members of the organization. He is free to express his views. Others are free to disagree. (I'm in the latter camp) 2/2

Undoubtedly. Which is why I was surprised to see it seemingly endorsed by the founder and appreciated @BrianNosek’s clarification that that was a personal, not organisational, stance.

Ahem, I think you misspelled @siminevazire ;) (I do think it was a useful clarification. Many ppl involved w/ the organization are active on twitter. Good to assume we are speaking in a personal capacity as a default, but never bad to clarify)

Isn't the point that the article contains admission that the CoC was violated though? Or am I mistaken?

I think she’s referring to this quote: “How much hostility did I receive when I mentioned the accuracy of gender stereotypes or researchers ignoring evidence contesting left narratives, and the like? None.”

Ok. I was not present when he made the remarks, but I interpreted that to mean he was talking about his research. He has a book titled "Stereotype Accuracy" and a number of articles about the topic
