Just went to dentist and I have a cavity in my wisdom tooth and I've never had a cavity before and *deep breatgs* I am thinking I'm going to die. Need to calm down. 😂😢

Jealous that you have your wisdom teeth! Mine were preventing my 12 year molars from coming in so I had to get the surgically removed at 16.pic.twitter.com/54Mn3ztxIE

They are getting removed because the bastards started to rot. 😢

You may want to ask if the cavity is active or not. I went to a dentist once that tried to sell me ₩800,000 (~£500) of dental work to fill 8 cavities; 7 of which I found out were inactive from another dentist.

Wow, that is awful. I did ask and he won't refer me till at least another 6 months. I don't think — thankfully! — such worries apply as removing them is free. The NHS is free, thankfully, at the point of use. 🧡

And, yes, I know NHS dentists are not free — but this would be dental surgery, so different.

They are free in certain cases. Fillings (in brown, IIRC) are free. I was doing cleaning though.

You'll be fine. You may have to have a little novacaine shot (which will pinch a little), then you may have some drilling (which doesn't hurt, but sounds bad). Your face may be numb for awhile. The procedure takes a few minutes, a couple hours to get feeling back.

I'm not having anything done to it. I left now as we were done with the cleaning. He didn't say it needs anything done to it. Should I be worried? Do you think he's too optimistic? I'm worried even more now if you think it needs something done.

Oh sorry. Didn't mean to make you more worried. If he says it doesn't need treatment right now, it should be fine. Has he talked about whether to keep or extract the wisdom tooth itself. Some people have them taken out (if they come in at strange angles or crowd other teeth).

Yes, he might refer me in 6 months to get them all removed. But I'm really scared and I wanted to keep them. I am being totally irrational though. And I get guess I just have to manage.

BTW, I'm no dentist, but I've had a TON of work done--mostly because I didn't go in my 20s out of anxiety. So I'm hear to tell you, it's WAY better in the long run to get things taken care of. There are meds available for the anxiety, and dentists can help....

I think I'm just emotional because it was so unexpected and I wish I'd been referred sooner but I can't really blame anybody. Quite a few people said they might need to be removed.

For some reason wisdom teeth are much more prone to cavities than other teeth are. I take decent care of my dental hygiene and have had very few cavities but a year after my wisdom teeth came out I had 6 cavities across the 4 of them, so I had them all removed and haven't had a

I had them taken out in two goes, left side first and two weeks later right. It was not nice but other medical procedures I’ve had have been worse. If you’re nervous tell your dentist. They tend to have experience with nervous people

I have nearly perfect teeth and my dentist has been bugging me for years to remove a wisdom tooth that looks fine but is pushing on the molar in front of it. I finally said yes. Pretty scared. If your tooth has emerged normal like mine it comes out pretty easy
