I have a switch on the keyboard too, from Spanish to English (which is always in the wrong setting)
Interesting. I specifically asked @SwiftKey to add one but I just updated and still can't find one. I sometimes turn French off altogether but it's not easy.
I forgot why I decided it was better than the Google keyboard, so I've switched back for a while.
Oops, my mistake, I checked and remembered that I switched back to Google's, precisely for that reason.

Probably. I wonder if I could persuade L'Académie Française to endorse a Greek alphabet?

I know the Greek alphabet from mathematics, but sadly all I know of the language is from etymology of English words, especially scientific.
