I’m also curious what the SIPS organisers thing. I read the piece as a right wing hijack of the point of a code of conduct to advance political aims.

The third in this list is very problematic (as you said!) but the other two are great examples of the fact that EVERYONE benefits from codes of conduct and inclusive norms: even the people in power who don’t want to hear rude criticisms of their choices as jokes in talks!!pic.twitter.com/YhpbxuCQuB
-
TBF though, mocking the alt-right is fine with me.
-
Yes. And necessary. But there are a lot of “easy jokes” at conferences (mostly as a function of gender or about sex) that should be much better considered than they are. If some of the lazy jokes about Trump go alongside all the pictures of naked women that’s fine by me!
-
And if someone wanted to replace their Trump/Brexit joke with a slide stating how damaging these policies are for themselves, their lab, their funding, science as an endeavour that would be AWESOME

-
Oh, yes, by all means dump Trump jokes. Nobody wants to be reminded of that destructive and awful and powerful loser.

is it just me or is it using SIPS to further right-wing views masked as objectivity in psych science
-
that's what if sounded like to me ... If anything, the failure by people on the left to call people on the right on their prejudices stems more from the often problematically overextended support of free speech, right to an opinions etc., than in actual inclusiveness.

The reason why. sorry, this will NEVER be my tribe. This sanitized speech, "inclusivity for all" (lest we mean the actually vulnerable categories), the hypocrisy of rejecting any ideological critique but at the same time selling your own heavily ideologized reseach as "objective"
-
And the cherry on the top: whenever any of this surfaces, whenever anyone even indirectly calls you on it, immediately activate the the "defending science" noble warrior armor. Uh oh.
-
Yes, but supposedly “with a much larger than usual dose of professional humility.” (Quote from piece).pic.twitter.com/x6U2kkZsfO

Accuracy of gender stereotypes?! What a beauty! Perhaps these gentleman should take a look at Athena SWAN reports.
-
I am so furious with this dangerous nonsense. Do their female colleagues (plenty of whom are in SIPS!) as well as their wives and daughters know they believe in gender stereotypes?!
-
I'm simply disgusted with this narrative and the pretense of rationality/science. Hopefully denying reality will bring these individuals down!
-
Hopefully the community will help in bringing this nonsense and/ or individuals behind down.
