Maybe these economists would find a way to make a mistake no matter the software to support their preferred policy, but for good measure:https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22223190 …

I actually found that previous article rereading my Matlab ideas to see if I still agree with them and how they apply to this issue.https://twitter.com/o_guest/status/842794088315404288?s=19 …

I can't believe I'm going to defend matlab but…it's not that bad. Some things on that list aren't true (there *are* namespaces) and some are caused by excess cleverness. Other languages are sometimes better, sometimes worse (R is chock full of weird surprises!) and the IDE's ok.

My thoughts are all on my blog so I don't want to go over them in this thread again. But main point is it's not
#openscience and it's prohibitively expensive.2 replies 0 retweets 2 likes -

Matlab is a dinosaur, but some of us are dinosaurs. Retraining myself, sacrificing productivity and time at a transition stage to ECR isn't something I'm going to do. So I'll do my best to be open science oriented with my Matlab. And help train the next gen to use R and python.

That's fair but Matlab isn't
#openscience. Sorry but it's just not.2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

Under this definition, I suppose it’s also impossible do to Open Science (tm) with CUDA or anything targeting specific instruments (MR pulse seq). That can’t be right....

I'm not going to spend time convincing you, since you have already made up your mind. It's not really a good use of our time. Perhaps if you look into what is and isn't #openscience on your own you might find a more appropriate working definition. Good luck.
