G in Greek is a dipthong, γκ or γγ. For foreign words it's always γκ.
An example of γγ is άγγελος (masculine noun) angle. Pronounced kind of like ah-geh-loh-s or if you have a Cypriot accent kind of like Anne(like the name)-geh-los.
Angel not angle. I have a migraine this might not be the best time.
Angle is γωνία. But never mind.
I'd love to know more about this. i know the whole alphabet but you point out some non-obvious rules that seem very interesting!
I can't teach you really BTW. I have a day job.
I just hope next time you think twice about what you tweeted because this happens to me all the time and both ways. It's partially why I put my name in both languages, so you all stop telling me I'm not Cypriot!
i did think twice.. that's why i asked you about it. I wasn't sure myself. so i said "i think there might be a typo" and not "you made a mistake"... there was no insult or patronising.
I'm glad you corrected me, and I've learned something new from you, thanks! that was fun to find out.
It's really hard to to be told I have a typo in my own namw and you tweeted twice. Not once. First time you transliterated from the Greek to Gkest. Second time you kept poking.
I see "thanks" but not "sorry". Anyway, let's go along our merry ways because this interaction has been less than ideal. There are many Greeks out there to teach you, a random Cypriot you just had an awkward interaction with isn't the one.
that's because i didn't do anything bad, i just asked you if i was right, and then pointed out why i was confused.
