Oh that one can NEVER be absent, like bread at the restaurant. You know we women have emotions and they get in the way of making judgements.

Honestly that conversation got out of hand. And I can see who’s reacting emotionally and very irrationally too, and none of them happens to be a woman. I was going to jump in beca I, too, am sick of men gangs of academic twitter who double down when they mess up. But it’s futile.

I'm really late to the "party" but ugh. Wow. Sorry.

I'm not sure how to word this safely but...all of you have been standing up to behaviours that have made for uncomfortable reading at times. I've seen your efforts (on multiple occasions), and just want you all to know I am grateful.

My DMs are always open to you all and I don't even care about the specifics. The higher-level pattern is very clear to me. Sorry it has to be this way (whisper network) but it's the only way we/I know.

By specifics, just to be clear, I mean I actually don't care about the quality of the research, or who is right etc, in this context. What worries me is the way certain people behave within these discussions towards the other discussants. Hypocrisy all the way down.

The actual research is important too but we have no lack of critical thinking when it comes to that. We do have a big lack of whose views are treated one way and whose views are treated another.

Great point. I tend to find it strange that some academics tend to assume some of us (their colleagues) lack critical thinking skills because we do think the way the criticism is conveyed matters. It’s quite patronizing to assume that we’re missing the “real” point.

It's definitely a good rhetoric trick on their part.

Rhetorical tricks are fine but their way lies the past. Where anybody who didn't fit their mold left science.
