Everything is flashy new and yet nothing has really changed in this sad country. A bakery in a multicultural neighbourhood. In front of us, a black man, freshly showered and shaved. Us coming from a hot day out. The black man takes some coins from his pocket to pay for his bread.

A young woman at the counter signals him to leave the coins on the counter top. The man complies with a tired gesture. We are next. How much? She, talking to us and smiling extends her hand; my partner, a white man, puts some coins in it; she is happy to take them.
