Could @cogsci_soc and other conferences on AI, philosophy & psychology please adopt this policy as well? Not just states and provinces, but avoid countries in general that are unsafe for LGBTQ+ folk.

Point of information— How is the list of safe areas compiled and updated?

I think it should be an ongoing dialogue and not a static link. Which is what I think you are correctly thinking of when mentioning "updated".

As an important aside too, for some countries (absolutely not the US though) I would be a little sad (not to see in 100% disagreement though) that a conference decided against going there due to their bigotry and hateful culture/laws.

For example, if I found out Cyprus was not selected because of their bigotry I would worry it was not a useful measure. Because I want to know for sure the reason was conveyed to the potential hosts so they can have a chance to improve.

I fear people in Cyprus, and similar, countries which have huge oppressed LGBT+ communities are left alone by the international community to basically die or to leave their country (like I did).

So this is actually a very complex issue and if Western-run conferences ignore non-Western developing nations because they are bigoted, we might lose a chance to help the people in those countries.

The LGBT+ scientists we are aiming to help in other words might miss out on help and being able to easily travel to a conference, etc. So yes, this is a huge and needed dialogue.

Sorry I keep making semantic typos due to my migraine. In the Tweet above where I say "not to see 100%" I mean: "not to say 100%".
