Nope. I'm working on the manuscript now and it feels like some of their complaints are because they didn't read my sentences properly. I can't even think of how to make some of my statements clearer.

Yeah, I might do a preprint before submitting next. I'm sometimes a bit self conscious with preprinting single-author papers without any feedback beforehand... of course, this wasn't the sort of feedback I was looking for either.

My lab had that happen too. In our case though, we really had a lot we needed to do better with. But we got really helpful critiques that showed us how to do better.
