Oh, haha. CogSci Soc's Twitter account unfollowed me after following me for a couple years. Laughed out loud.

This is only whoever runs their twitter account, but this action is indicative of an organisation that is deeply flawed and a poor reflection of the larger cognitive science enterprise. It's totally sensible to put your energy elsewhere.

Too much to say on twitter, but just look at the conference. it's a ton of parallel tracks of hit-and-miss quality to suck in sufficient numbers of junior researchers into a pyramid scheme in which they pay tribute to baby boomer club members awarding each other prizes.

Which conference isn’t like that?

I guess it's like asking which politician isn't corrupt. At the point where you tolerate it and treat it as acceptable, it will only get worse.

True. I suppose I always thought if Cogsci as relatively ok. Which may say more about the other conferences I’ve been to.

I have been to many conferences over the years from machine learning to cognitive modelling to Python. I'd say cogsci conf is in the lower 50% with a few small and large nudges reminding me I don't belong (even though unlike ML or dev'ing in Python, it's my actual field).

One of the best ever, check out THEIR really comprehensive code of conduct BTW, was
@PyConUK. So anyway at cogsci, I had a nice enough time but that doesn't change that incidents occurred both last year and this that are beyond doubt a function of my gender.1 reply 1 retweet 1 like
I didn't mean to shout "their". Silly autocorrect.
