@PyConUK. So anyway at cogsci, I had a nice enough time but that doesn't change that incidents occurred both last year and this that are beyond doubt a function of my gender. -

same - i went at beginning of my phd, but didn't feel like going back; i chalked it up to there not being enough language or brain stuff there, but really these same dynamics were at play and they bothered me. i went back after a decade 2 years ago and felt the same...

Thank you for speaking up publicly. Many others have shared similar in private but whisper network chat sometimes isn't enough. Selection bias obscures these issues too.

The way I see it is this: I have a strong belief this is needed to be said and good enough mental health to say this out loud and stand by it. I can't imagine being me and not saying it. Ultimately, if I'm not going to say it, who will?

Even the tiniest difference is worth all the negative stuff. I'm such a pessimist but somehow I do this.
