This disheveled middle-aged man stopped me in the street to tell me my hair was nice. I said "thank you" because why not? Not cat calling IMHO. Like an actual compliment. He just walked off. 😂

Very cool, and thanks for putting this out there! Makes it clear to the dudebros out there who are all, "What, I can't even give someone a compliment without being accused of harassment?" that no, that's totally possible, & really the problem is them.

Yes, BUT and it's a BIG BUT context matters too. If I'm alone at night you best not talk to me even if you think my hair is fantastic.

This kind of made me reflect on the occurrences that I have been spontaneously complemented & they’re non-zero, non-gender correlated & pleasant each time. Have had the privilege of never having the cat calley sexual harassment type, but non threatening compliments are good

Yeah. My hair does look amazing BTW so I do get compliments at conferences actually. It's very shiny when I wash it every day as I do at conferences. 😂

Normally at work, esp in the past, people used to ask "what have you done" when I washed it and I would say " I washed it" and they would feel sheepish — haha. I wash more often now then phd/first postdoc. 🚿

I'm jealous of anyone who can go more than 18-24 hours without washing their hair & not look like a derelict. My wife can go days & look beautiful! I go *one* day & I'm visibly icky.

Of course context matters. I forget that dudebros need to be reminded of that, too. 😊
