This is something the society cares a lot about and is working to address. We would really like your feedback and thoughts on how best to increase diversity at the conference. (Though worth noting prize winners this year are diverse in both gender and national origin).

It seems to presuppose that the current absence of diversity is a natural consequence of meritocracy. But academia isn’t a meritocracy. So much talent actually lost or actively pushed out of academia, exactly because it isn’t.
