At what point does it cross the line into thought-crime though? Or pre-crime? That's the thing...
I never claimed people are good, just that they are OK. Discussion is great but the selection of topics open to debate, like say "debate on if trans women are women" is abusive. So when you say "market place of ideas" you actually mean the privileged get to debate our existence.

No. I didnt promote the "marketplace of ideas" concept, I simply said its the world we live in. I dont agree with it. The debate on whether trans women are women has happened. The Q was asked, trans women said "yes we are" & that is where it shd have ended. The abuse came after.
-
(Not that I am trying to speak for trans women, of course. I just mean, from my position it was a reasonable question to ask. Once, so it was on the record. And that the answer should come from trans women only and that the answer should be respected.)
-
It wasn't reasonable. We don't debate every topic. The politics of which topics are open to society-level debate are pretty fucking oppressive.
-
Fair enough. Like I say, I can only speak from my position and I wouldn't deign to speak from anyone else's. My point was basically that the question was asked, we cant take that back, and its sort of natural for humans to ask it. But it shd never have gone further than that.
