I relate so much! I have been in male-dominated fields forever (comp neuro/bio, physics, tech, data sci) and I don't have any memories of being mistreated or not taken seriously based on my gender. I know it's happen, I just didn't notice or blocked it out. Or misattributed it.
-
I know I semi-consciously blocked some stuff like that out, especially when I was in my late teens/early 20s. I also only have no specific memories of how other women were treated based on their gender.
-
I have vague memories from early years of insulting chatter about other women or women in general that I either tried to side eye or awkwardly laugh at so that the moment would pass.
-
Oh & abt yearly some older male colleague/mentor type, 10-20 yrs older, would tell me it was too bad I wasn't older, bc I was so easy to talk to. Some were married. None pushed further than that. Now at 36, I can't remember exactly which men did said this in which circumstances
-
All of which is to say, I know not noticing and blocking out some things
