... by definition? If so, then the label ‘non-binary’ to describe a specific gender identity would become redundant, because it would fail to pick out a special category of people.”

Right, just rereading that section. Her point seems to be that the non-binary framing has a potential confusion in it and so it’s not clear it helps the way people want it to help. That’s hardly transphobic or immediately wrong

Sorry no time to explain how it IS transphobic. Just read on an notice the ridiculing of non-binary ppl in there. It is feigning to be a neutral, intellectual analysis to push transphobic ideas ... as more such pieces these days.

She was pretty rude in places, that was true. I think transphobic is an unfair review, though

TERF implies a lot of baggage that I’m not sure I see here. She’s trying to (from her perspective) correctly lay out the terrain and the vocab, so it’s not about excluding it’s about being able to talk usefully

That is, of course, a tricky path. In the hands of Dawkins, etc it can become a very ‘well actually’ sort of endeavour with not enough listening. That seemed the gist of the piece Iris linked me to

I worry that TERF just shuts down discussion, and at least some of those discussions are worth having

I don't worry too much what cis men think on this topic, but thanks for explaining.

That’s why I don’t ever say much about these things. I’m just reading around and I have some...reservations about some of the narratives.

I don't know you offline but you talk in this code to basically undermine trans people... I'd be pretty concerned for my trans women peers if you subscribe to TERFy gender essentialism.

I can try to explain where I’m at on this stuff if you want, but I won’t if you don’t need to know (if that makes sense)
