In contradiction to one of the talks yesterday, I feel the need to say: no code IS WORSE than bad code. So yes, always release your code, please!

There is very little "good" code, or indeed agreement on what that would look like. And critics will often miss some of the problems you had to solve that led to your "less elegant" solution.

What about Facebook? Tornado webserver used by ipython etc iirc is from Facebook https://github.com/tornadoweb/tornado/blob/master/setup.py … . React framework as well, and there is more https://opensource.fb.com so IMHO FB is ok .
