So, for pedagogy and teaching, when we've got awesome IDEs for everyday development, I hope we'll see pedagogical extensions of them that take away clutter and distraction. Perhaps like Logo is a simple but complete and accessible programming language.

It's this that I disagree with. I don't think (great) IDE are like training wheels. I think they're like an excellent instrument rather than a crap one for a beginner. They help all levels of proficiency, especially a beginner, because they remove unnecessary noise.
