Diaresis! They do this all the time, I think coöperate is the most common example. Always jarring.
Had a prof in undergrad CS he would do "rôle" and he would do "coöcur". The circumflex I've since discovered means he's painfully posh. 
"Coöccur"... My phone's autocorrect is really confused.
