Someth that some of my kindred spirits in science and I often discuss is how we're not that interested in being big names. We just wanna do some science. Nothing wrong with being ambitious, but it does seem very often the narratives presented cater to ppl who want to be "big".

I... just don't care about that and would rather not. I know many of us are introverts but it really does seem "how to make it in science" advice is more focused on "how to be famous and adulated and get 'top tier' journal articles and fame".

TBH, my great unattainable career ambition mostly involves having a permanent job and being able to afford normal human things like nice food and occasional journeys.
