“Karl [Popper] always starts his lectures on scientific method with the remark that ‘there is no scientific method.’ It is *this* remark which I accept—and I reject everything which comes afterwards.”
Feyerabend being “thoroughly Popperian” as much as he can muster!

OMG, Feyerabend, stop already! Geez ofc this is part of what one has to encounter/endure while reading history of philosophy & science but come on! A bold hypothesis? Seriously?!

In a letter to Lakatos, Feyerabend expresses his envy for Lakatos’s “attractive” assistants and secretaries. These letters are getting harder and harder to read

All the sexism aside, smt that comes across clearly from Feyerabend’s writing is his extreme awareness and close monitoring of self-righteousness that derails his rational thinking. He wants to be deeply critical but not righteous. An exercise many scientists can benefit from.

And apparently he didn’t always succeed at this and hence he got this letter from Lakatos in response to one of his papers. In other words, Lakatos is having a “tone debate” with Feyerabend, and I’m loving it!pic.twitter.com/bTrcqm0LIs

This time it’s Lakatos! Two grown up intellectual men in their forties writing to each other in eight-grader language.pic.twitter.com/lFdC2GWh4P

This was from my review of that correspondence, circa 1999:pic.twitter.com/qSYaQGtHxX

Rather put me off Lakatos, who until then had been something of a philosophical hero!

Indeed quite offputting to read how regularly this juvenile, sexist banter had been going on between them. Quite cringeworthy and infuriating.

It's really gross. Especially since it genuinely undercuts women is science so much.

Hmmm. Really disappointed to see you're a TERF though.
