Agree completely! I just taught an Intro Matlab course for Psych undergrads (I didn’t design it) and the closed access issues alone made it so incredibly difficult for them.

For Ss with 0 programming experience (1/3 of the class) I consistently worried about how to help them generalize for the future. The automatic transmission is a great analogy here,

Would strongly prefer teaching R/Python classes in the future. Open languages, more generalizable, and more useful to those who don’t go into Psych. Great article! Thanks for sharing.

To be clear, the Ss were awesome and did their best to learn all they could despite the difficulties. I just wish I could have taught them in another language.
