Ah, Varosha then. Famagusta is able to be visited and I have been a few times — Varosha AFAIK is not open to anybody except Turkish troops although I guess some reporters have been allowed in more recently. I was born in/am from Nicosia.

My aunt and uncle were in Varosha on their honeymoon when the invasion happened.

Yes, I think the other side of his family are in no man's land - horrible, one cousin was killed in the invasion. I've been on the Turkish side only once and many relatives disapproved that we went at all.

Sure —- everybody has right wing relatives — I do too. But without meeting our fellow Cypriots and saying sorry through actions it's never going to get better. My brother now speaks fluent Turkish and he and a lot of my schoolmates actively work for cooperation and peace.

My village's legacy is extra tricky because unlike Potamia for example, we are one of the most right wing ones, we killed/allowed to be killed/pushed to the ghettos all the T/Cs in the 1960s.

Oh, no worries. And I enjoy sharing. BTW for Potamia, Natalie's blog is always very interesting, e.g.:http://mcmkmk.org/index.php/2018/01/03/its-just-a-dream-right/ …

Also since Cyprus is so fucked up, here's another great one by
@NatalieHami1 that really hammers home how absurd living there can be (and painful and heart-breaking):http://mcmkmk.org/index.php/2018/02/14/why-i-vote/ …2 replies 0 retweets 2 likes -
Thank you! :)

You know as a child & even after 2003 I still thought of Turkish Cypriots as not Cypriots. That's how culturally entrenched all this BS is. They are very much under attack now and in the past. I meet some in the UK and they tell me they are losing their culture in the TRNC.
