Here's something people might consider: when you meet someone that looks ethnically different from you, don't start a conversation with "where are you from?". It is alienating and othering & an immediate reminder that they don't belong here [wherever that is].

But like I say it's ended really badly often and if you have to ask everybody you think is from Cyprus iif they are Cypriot (and you aren't) it makes me think you have a fetish? Why would you do that?
