Why do scientists shy away from the word “problem”? Why a challenge or at best open question

I suspect it is, not sure tho. Perhaps if we had been educated in the same way we wouldn't see it as ridiculous, dunno. For me it is utterly silly

I dunno, Esther, I think we might be different to average. I was educated to be Orthodox Christian and a Greek supremacist. Obviously I rejected that.

To bring us back to the problem *ehem* question in the OP — Maria, this is even better as to why "problem" is not the best word. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Problem_solving … Although I have to say this might not be why you specifically were told not to use "problem"!

The "Definition" section goes into how the term is used in psychology and computer science (and thus cognitive science since it encompasses interdisciplinary areas between the two and more).
