I wish I could go back in time and tell undergrad Steph that she was not too stupid to learn how to use R and do statistics. Even if she failed maths in high school. Still V basic but seeing improvement
have even assembled a peer study group for others interested in learning.

many thanks to
@BeattieL for agreeing to lead study group and share her knowledge. So far we are a girl gang.1 reply 1 retweet 2 likesShow this thread -
Trying not to be “if I can do, so can you” cliche. Just keenly aware of
@o_guest’s thread about how science has lost good people because they couldn’t code.1 reply 1 retweet 1 likeShow this thread -

Yup, everybody can code if given the right instruction. Just like everybody can speak and write but of course we aren't all Maya Angelou or William Shakespeare.

I feel that one of the big problems is giving the right instruction. I’ve still no idea how to teach people to code from the complete novice level. Because no-one really *taught* me. I suspect there are a lot of people like me who are teaching programming courses.

I had an excellent teacher, but I can imagine... Surely though, you can use how you taught yourself?

It's not as easy as that; the tools and conditions don't really exist any more. Unless... think I could get budget for a room full of BBC micros and a library of Osbourne BASIC books?

That's sweet. Visual Basic is what I learned first on.
