I think most cis people are okay with trans people getting harmed, so while I agree we need less of each, it’s bad to pretend we’ve got the momentum of a cultural zeitgeist that will protect, value, and believe trans women.https://twitter.com/cecproff/status/999560501326635008 …

I had the group take the ‘women only’ language out, rework to reflect a gender spectrum + ally narrative, included trans in our more descriptive text, and ensured that we avoided ‘she’ pronouns throughout and instead went with ‘their’ - too much to type in a single tweet

How are you preventing trans fems from leaving frustrated?
-
How are helping someone ally with you? This is Twitter. I gave a quick tweet encompassing SOME of what I did. The group jumped. I’m seriously out. I’ll still advocate in the groups I deal with IRL but wow. This was less than enjoyable from someone who is here with love & support.

Why would we need to help someone ally with us? Being a trans ally is either important or not. Help is irrelevant. I do get I pounced on you, but if you pounced on a man and he said "how are you helping men ally with you?", would that fly?

It reads to me that you want to hear you are being a great ally instead of wanting to genuinly be a better ally, and learn from feedback. It’s possible to listen to (understandably) critical questions without feeling attacked. I think
@castpixel’s analogy is on point. -
I’m reminded of a thread I posted on how men can be better allies for women (in science). This point 12 (in a list of 22 and more that I was not yet able to thread) seems relevant here too: https://twitter.com/irisvanrooij/status/997217617143369728?s=21 … And, as referenced there, 11 and 13 may apply too.

I’m not attacking. I merely hope to give useful information to hopefully support seeing the dynamic of this conversation (and in a parallel thread) in a different light.
