One of the more curious things about Star Trek's sci fi setting is that it is a universe in which Freudian psychology is true.

Scientists have told me they unfollow me for being "too political". I post about topics I care about because if it's helpful for just one other person, then that's enough. Met a Professor I admire who unexpectedly complimented this very feature. Our impact is more than we think.

I didn't collect any data for my Ph.D. In Psychology. I think it's really weird — but common! — to assume that modellers like me don't exist in the same field as you all, but we do! 😅

This theoretical computational cogsci line of research ultimately also led to this book:

This reminds me of how, even though I have been paid to code, and the code I've worked on has had extremely far reaching impact; I have never actually worked on code that was sold to a customer.

My PhD thesis was also without data, and even without computer simulations. Instead: formal & computational modeling, complexity analysys (by mathematical proof) and philosophical/conceptual analyses.

A shoutout to 's book (). I only read the first chapter and already it's the book I wish I had to read when I started working in cognitive science. I wish more read it. I am likely to make the first chapter required reading for my lab.

Is it a good idea to [publicly] discuss, in depth and even criticise, a scientific paper without having read it?

Periodic reminder that I'm developing and maintaining the experimental software formerly known as Linger (now: Linger3). I'm not the "right" person to be doing it, but I'm doing it anyway.

It is grad school interview season in North America. Amusing how esteemed social psychologists through all social psychology knowledge out of the window when approaching this topic. Despite interviews having no benefits for estimating students' future performance, many favor them

  16. I broke flow on Friday night to socialise and now I am upset. Don't get me wrong there is a tonne missing from this story so it's hard to get the full picture, but it's extra annoying to break flow for somebody who behaves so badly. Also yes, I am aware I'm introverted AF.

There are two types of people: 1) people who see the world in black and white, simplistic groupings, polarised thinking. 2) people who see the black and white but also the nuance and know when to focus on which interpretation. 😈

I wonder if David Cameron (PPE, Oxford), Philip Hammond (PPE, Oxford), Matt Hancock (PPE, Oxford), Jeremy Hunt (PPE, Oxford), Rory Stewart (PPE, Oxford), Liz Truss (PPE, Oxford), Nick Robinson (PPE, Oxford), Robert Peston (PPE, Oxford) or Evan Davis (PPE, Oxford) agree?

Can we still do that with the « race science » papers trying to defend the « superiority of the white race »? Please? 🥺

  21. For the umpteenth time since being back in Cyprus a fellow Cypriot told me "you're too dark to be English" after finding out I'm related to my brother. I can't even mentally juggle all that's wrong here. Oh, well, I'll drop it because my brain will probably implode.
