We’re taking critical steps to address nine years of National's neglect of our hospitals. Today, Prime Minister @jacindaardern was at Maniototo Hospital to confirm a $1 million grant to help with a long-awaited rebuild.https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/102857295/government-confirms-1-million-promise-to-redevelop-maniototo-hospital …

$1mill won’t get a lot. Don’t blame National all the time it’s tiresome. Tell everyone what are going to do or not going to do.

Come on, even in Helen's time, the screws were on the Hospital/Health Boards to curb their spending. they were like bottomless pits. Look what Waikato would have saved if CEO Nigel Murray hadn't spent more than he should have, due to a hapless Hospital Board who he fooled.

National spent years cruising on the gravy train while ignoring major issues that affected all New Zealanders one way or another.

The Budget Responsibility has to go out the window, as we NEED billions more ontop of the Billions borrowed to fix this sort of thing. Where did ALL the $70 Billion borrowed by Key n Co Go? Because it didn't go on our crumbling Infrastructure.

Most people who have been to hospital in NZ would , I believe , found it professional , caring and very efficient. Stop running the service down .

Try working in it. It has been pared to the bone. Simply no efficiencies to be found. Grossly underfunded.

That too; plus poor management, frauds, taking patients on who shouldn't be there e.g. EDs making things harder for the genuine patients.

Wonderful news! Hospitals desperately need more funds; they are on the whole understaffed and doctors and nurses are over-worked!

Kiwis should go private instead of relying on the govt.

Not everybody can ya numpty. So what happens to those who can't they die. I'm on medical and I've even tried to get it to get better healthcare I was willing to give up eating just to factor it into my budget but no provider will insure me I'm a liability due to my health.

Public should be left for those who cannot afford private. But don't expect equal care; the government is now "looking after you" via a publicly funded (non-profitable) organisation. They will do what they just need to.
