Guess a lot of right wing voters bitching about the increase in the accommodation supplement don't need the money in which case I can only but assume that all those that own rental properties won't be taking advantage of it and raising their rents any time soon? Dickheads.

Yeah, I think it's obvious that The Market will sort all this out without any intervention at all. The last government showed the way and nothing else needs to be done. Still plenty of sleeping room on the streets for the losers.

So you think that the neolib orthoxy is the bee's knees? It's worked really well over the last few years, hasn't it? Your understanding of economics seems to be incomplete and out of touch.

I'll break it down for you John, share the joy of knowledge, if you increase the purchasing power of renters, esply in this stretched market, all you do it push up the price of rental accommodation, and all those who don't get the govt' hand out will be worse off.

Gavin, this is a stuffed market. The Govt will be doing a bit more in regard to the rental market and will have to. The last lot of over-priced incompetents have done huge damage to the housing and rental markets because their economic "rules" were inadequate.

Some very poor single people, living in poverty on low incomes of as little or less than about $200 a week, will NOT receive the accommodation supplement. They don't have cars, and many starve. Their crime? They managed to save over the "savings threshold" by not eating much.

That's the reason I'm not keen on accommodation supplements - it's been shown to decrease affordability and put money into the pockets of landlords. "landlord capture" I'd like to see unemployment benefit & other social investment improved.https://thestandard.org.nz/government-was-advised-the-accommodation-supplement-increase-will-not-work/ …

Accommodation Supplements aren't reaching people who need help. Eligibility is based partly on savings. BUT studies show women with lower incomes, still manage to save higher percentages of it. Savers with very low incomes and very tight budgets are disadvantaged. #GenderGap

national would have wiped out the tax cut with another hike in tax like they did last time, the only people who were going to befit were themselves and their wealthy mates. So unless u r rich it wouldnt apply.

Thanks Labour. And after the extra regional petrol tax, the increase in rent because of the increased rates (Thanks to another lying Labour member) and a general increase in living costs thanks to the higher minimum wage and petrol tax they will be -$ 35 a week worse of.

Another subsidy for the ritch, the government would be better off giving the money to the local soup kitchens to feed the homeless.
