Today we launched our KiwiBuild programme and announced its first major development, the purchase of 29 hectares of land for thousands of houses just outside Auckland's CBD. It's all part of our plan to start solving the housing crisis. Find out more: http://nzlp.nz/ls3f- pic.twitter.com/aHIgxaiMIA

No doubt all these houses will have bio degradable furnishings. ie NZ woolen carpet and insulation. #Ilovewool

Best be starting thousands of new builds every few weeks, you have alot of catching up to do. Remind us again how much an affordable house costs .... 650K+ was it ? sounds super affordable for that working-class minimum wage family

Drew lines on maps and made big hollow announcements that never led to anything. The national party way.

It's a start, but we need more action than this to keep housing affordable. Please keep working with the Greens on this to get more useful ideas, TY. Your adoption of our policy against letting fees was a practical and simple example. 💚

I'm guessing Govt needs to develop clear distinctions between urgent social housing needs vs. 'corrective' action in the market. Hard as it is to say it but I believe the Govt needs to be careful not to crash the market.

Also, until construction ramps up, initial sales are going to be pushing down from high average house values to reach what buyers they can. The sad reality is that, in the early stages, the market will still be overvalued and truly affordable houses won't be built quickly enough

I do agree that nine years of inaction has left us in a hole that's difficult to dig out of. That's why we need to be looking at all the angles at once, and action on rental market is needed simultaneously. 🙂

Yep, I agree. It's like the priorities need to be the homeless, renter protection, correcting the market. Getting the mix, timing and resources right must be a hellish exercise. I can feel the impatience, we just want the horrors to stop but it's going to take some work.

Excellent, Labour. You'll have to excuse the pitiful right-whingers. They're only used to their Nat idols dismissive attitude about social issues such as the housing and homeless crisis.
