You think the PM, being at the place of signing the treaty,on its commemorative day, and having the honour to speak for the first time from the paepae at this marae, is not working?? She is, by definition, the only one in NZ able to do this! She's more at work than any of us.

🤔why do maori get so upset about the treaty? shouldnt us european descendants be pissed off that we gained nothing, but lost billions from this? ... really should be just called NZ day so no matter your race you can sit on a beach, have a bbq or beer with each other

I'm pretty sure you're capable of doing a Google search and answering that question yourself. It's an interesting answer if you spend the time to do some research and inform yourself.

rhetorical questions are meant more to internal pondering. I know 'why' maori are upset, but on that same note us europeans cant be upset about paying them billions in compensation and still trying to 'help' when a natural invasion generally results in assimilation or decimation

Genuinely, why do you think Maori are upset then? Do you think that the anger is unjustified or is it just that you believe Maori have been overcompensated?

anyone who is colonized has some justification for being upset. but ever since the arrival of the Europeans, Maori have benefited in some way - well like anything only the higher ups benefited and because of this I do think they have been overcompensated

That's an interesting position. From my perspective I've always thought the europeans benefited more from their colonization of New Zealand and that the negative effects of the original settlers had a compounding effect from generation to generation.

how though? traders before the colonization had purchased a lot of land from the Maori in Northland with whom Maori traded with prosperously. Eng didnt care for a NZ colony until Maori sent a plea.
