Labour call it 'our energy payment' but just remember it's your taxes paying it. Could that money be used more wisely elsewhere? There's no such thing as free money.

Maybe... But in any case, if a govt of a payment for a specific item such as energy costs, it should be paid BY the govt to the provider DIRECTLY though info provided in the application.. not just a payment to the applicant.

We have Coal China,India & central Africa are building 1000 Coal Power Stations in accordance with the Paris Agreement! (Which considers scrubbed Coal to be clean energy!) So why not build new clean coal power stations here to make power cheap for all of New Zealand?

I live in a neighbourhood where the average house must be worth at least $2-3 million. Many of the houses have elderly in them. Sure they love this subsidy just as they love their rich grandkids getting free university. Your future Tory QCs and Captains of Industry say thank you

Thank you from all the wealthy people who don't need it? Why did you cancel the tax cuts that would have helped everyone?? #idiotsingovt

Because those tax cuts were a bribe, that’s why. A one off $1000 would equate to about $800. Give me help with the power bill anyday

A noble initiative. My advice from Blighty: 1. Only pay it to NZ residents (no expats in warmer climes still paid) 2. Residents of Invercargill, Winton, Gore etc deserve payment ×2
