Our Healthy Homes Guarantee is now the law! It introduces standards to make sure every rental is warm, dry, and safe to live in - and it'll mean fewer Kiwi kids and families getting sick because their home's too cold and damp. #100days Read more here: http://nzlp.nz/kwhpn pic.twitter.com/yRPGvMOQNd

Good idea but I wonder about the policing, monitoring - resources to make it work. Create all the standards you like, but back it up.

Nope , there are so called wealthy young people who don't know this.. had a vet student and young couple in law drying clothes inside and then complaining about mould and condensation.. they just don't have the brains in common sense

Congratulations! Talking to landlords renting older properties while they save & plan for a rebuild project ~ the cost of upgrade will double the rent Some will just demolish & wait longer before they afford a redevelopment (so less flats)

Does seem a shame that landlords won't be able to fund their redevelopments by housing people in unhealthy dwellings. I know u won't get it but blood money springs to mind.

My you are a snob! When I was saving for a house I rented many grotty flats ~ no one forced me I was lucky as I had learnt to open windows to stop mould so none were unhealthy! How many properties do you provide for poor people to rent?

With respect, if none of them were unhealthy then this law change wouldn't have affected you. So there's no valid objection.

Yes students with more money to pay for quality rental housing are paying increased rent . But still slightly less than market rent. Massive rental shortage thanks to @nzlabour and @PhilTwyford policy
