Typos of the New York Times

@nyttypos

I am an appellate lawyer and persnickety dude. As a hobby, I correct typos in the Times, which no longer employs copy editors and consequently has tons of typos

    The only thing the New York Times and Shakespeare have in common:

    This hyphen appears to be a typo. But I can't seem to highlight it, so it might be a weird formatting issue.

    "its" should be "their" in "the territories expect residents to manage the banks, even though they cannot use its services." Its antecedent is "banks."

    "the monitoring framework . . . are a key development" is a verb/noun-agreement error that should say "is a key development."

    Liked the original gibberish versions of these tweets better, more fun. (The grammatical mistake in the second one may not jump out at you at first.)

    "here's who leading" is ungrammatical nonsense and should say "here's who's leading."

    Really weird error, New York Times. There has never been a "David Johnston" in the Beach Boys; you are thinking of Bruce Johnston.

    Verb/noun-agreement error: "are" should be "is" in "The cryptic nature of the digital firms and tech contractors are also bound to raise questions" because the sole subject of "are" is the singular "The cryptic nature," which is only "of" plural things.

    In the byline, "Reporting was contributed Austin Ramzy, Alexandra Stevenson," etc. should say "was contributed *by Austin Ramzy."

    Apparently the Times Magazine's star interviewer (and the Times's last remaining dedicated copy-editors, who all work at the Magazine) thinks Malcolm X was called "Malcom X."

    When you said that Mr. Moseley "ruled" that "We don’t have a candidate that fits the entire coalition that we need," did you mean, perhaps, to say he "rued" that the party lacks a candidate that fits the entire coalition it needs?

    Daily reminder to Opinion editors that unless a contributor is a Nobel laureate, it would be a good idea to actually check their submission for glaring typos in the first paragraph before hitting the publish button ("I wanted to my express my patriotism").

    Am not a Science Bro, but I am a Grammar Bro, and when a full sentence is in parentheses, its period (or other final punctuation) goes inside the parentheses, not out.

    Why does the photo caption say "below, Elizabeth Warren"? She isn't "below"; she's third from the right/second from the left. The photos are all arranged horizontally.
