In Opinion The editorial board writes: "Rather than show a little backbone themselves and support the right of athletes to protest peacefully, the NFL capitulated to a president who relishes demonizing black athletes."https://nyti.ms/2IFZeHH

Maybe the working class people who pay a small fortune going to a game, before returning to work the next day, want be entertained rather than observe a political protest by a bunch of millionaires.

how does people kneeling during the anthem affect the entertainment value of the entire game?

They caved to an administration that, even in its’ Twitter response to the new policy, showed no respect for the ideals of the country it supposedly respects. This is a devastating cultural moment. This administration is profoundly corrosive.

The NFL gave the option of staying in the locker room. So no one is being forced to respect the flag. Nor did they tell them they couldn't protest on their free time.

The NFL makes a business decision and somehow it’s Trump’s fault???? No wonder the moniker Trump gave them has stuck like glue...they are truly the Failing New York Times.

It's actually all very simple. When you are at work, you are required to follow the code of conduct policy, or you can't work there. This is how it is in EVERY job.

Irrelevant. The anthem is not part of the game nor their job responsibilities.

Are they in uniform and on field? Are they being paid to be there? The anthem is just as much a part of their performance as any down in the game.

It can be argued that they are not on the clock and it is illegal to force people to stand for the anthem.

If you don't want to participate, then stay in the locker room until the anthem is over. That's all they are asking. That is really not too much to ask.
