Once again, fascists are not populists. They're the opposite of populists. Did they throw all the dictionaries away at the NYT?

pop·u·list ˈpäpyələst/ noun noun: populist; plural noun: populists 1. a member or adherent of a political party seeking to represent the interests of ordinary people. Authoritarian regimes don't represent ordinary people. They represent cabals of white-collar criminals

They appeal to the base natures of ordinary people, Think of the "ordinary Germans" who let Hitler take over

I prefer to think of the paradigm case as that of Lincoln, who appealed to the nobler aspects of ordinary people. "...a government of the people, by the people, and for the people." Using populism as a synonym for fascism is the worst kind of normalization of our baser instincts

"The better angels of our nature". There is some wisdom there. We are at loggerheads though, because I believe populism itself is the problem.

Electing an anti-establishment movement is different than having a dictator take power from a king with a coup, US education system I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ignorance knows no borders. Here are the pertinent items. Do the rest of the research on your own, you just may learn something. 4. Contrary to popular belief, Mussolini did not take power in a coup. 5. Mussolini did not become a true dictator until 1925.

In this case, hard right anti-immigrant and anti-European Union. They will move to lift sanctions on Russia, so Russia is getting EXACTLY what they want: sanctions lifted and weakening the West by weakening institutions that strengthen the West as a unified bloc.
