The hospital told her she had to pay nearly $800 if she wanted to see her newborn twins. She didn't have the money.https://nyti.ms/2IDXoam

Incoherent.dishonest.malicious Contested claim that a hospital demanded payment *after* treating an uninsured, undocumented foreigner it couldn’t communicate with = experience millions of Chinese people have with “inflexible system that requires payment before treatment”?!

Hospital in German is Krankenhaus, meaning “Suffer house”. I like to think they mean financially.

My niece was born prematurely, and when she was born, she could not see her mother. If The illegal immigrant lady's baby indeed was born prematurely, The illegal immigrant lady's experience was not discrimination or injustice.

That may not be the case in the United States. In China, families of some parents or patients will refuse to pay the medical bills they should pay, or even abandon their children or patients in hospitals.

In order to avoid this situation, the hospital will treat the patient first even if the patient has no money, but the family or the patient must pay the medical expenses before leaving the hospital.

Americans, please stop acting so outraged that this is happening in China and how evil Chinese hospitals must be. A while back, a woman in the US said she was charged $40 to hold her baby after birth. This is happening in the US too.https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2016/10/04/hospital-delivery-cost_n_12336358.html …

I'm pretty sure the $40 came after the mother was discharged. This is very different from that the hospital demands $40 before allowing the mother to hold her own baby. So please stop saying this is the same as the case in China. Of course, I fully agree the charge is ridiculous.

I don't know what is worse actually - being told in advance that you are going to get charged for something, or not telling you and then later charging you for a bunch of things you didn't think you had to pay for (and you find out on an invoice).

This is so so evil, no international medical law should permit this. Thank goodness for DNA technologies, it would have been worse.
